NVMe RAID 0 PH517-51 Questions

Hello all.

This is my first post here. It seems like a great community! Got a few questions....

I have a stock PH517-51-75T7. It only has a 256Gb drive SSD plus the 1TB HD. The SDD is pretty slow as well.  I was wanting more space, so I just ordered 2 Kingston A2000 1TB M.2 NVMe drives. They are not Samsung speeds, but a lot faster then stock, and the price was right (on sale). I was also thinking of putting them in RAID 0 to increase performance. However I have watched some videos online, and have some questions....

1. Can I do it? Can you RAID 2 NVMe drives on this laptop? I think it says I can, but just thought I would ask the experts :)
2. Will I notice a performance improvement on RAID 0? I hear it might be done through the CPU or something, and not hardware based, so other then seeing a 2tb drive, I was wondering if speeds will be improved. I am not overly worried about losing a drive and then losing everything off both. But if the difference in nothing, then no use it taking the risk.
3. I am removing the SSD I have in there now as I need the slots, and leaving the HD in place with my files on it for backup. Do I have to worry about losing any data I have on the HD when I turn RAID on?
4. Any tips that will save me some headaches when I am going through this? My plan is to do a fresh install, and then buy an M.2 external enclosure, so I have a 256gig usb drive (with the added bonus of all my files safely disconnected from the system while I go though this).

Thanks for the help all,
Cheers!
