This beast of a laptop is 5yrs old now but continues to provide reliable service. It was upgraded to 32GB RAM, M.2 storage added and a new SSD last year. The battery has barely 1hr runtime now so I bought a replacement and installed it.

Environment:
  • latest BIOS 1.09
  • Windows 10 x64

I get a Battery Not Present error in Windows 10.

So far I've:
  • used the battery reset button accessed from a hole in the bottom of the case to "reset" the battery while AC adapter is disconnected and the device is powered off (this should be the proper way, not sure why its not working)

  • did battery reset but let it sit for 10mins before testing (no AC plug)

  • removed the windows devices under Battery in Device Manager (they always return after power cycle)

  • reseated the battery connector (not the issue as the laptop runs off of the charge already in the battery with no AC adapter connected)

  • "reset" the laptop by depressing the power button for >20secs (probably pointless, see battery reset button)

Currently working on:
  • roll back stock battery to do some isolation/testing

There are a lot of different suggestions for various models about the battery reset procedure. I can't find any service manuals for this laptop to clarify the proper procedure. Appreciate if anyone has specific experience with this model. It's very similar to the VN7-791G I believe.

Thank-you.

Note: Also similar to the VN7-591G (same battery, very similar internals).
