Warranty not being honoured

I bought an acer laptop from argos in September 2019 for college, and just last month I was using the laptop and everything was working fine, I got up to check on my kids, came back a little later and the screen was all black with coloured lines on it. I tried everything to fix it but to no avail. The next day I phoned argos and they gave me Acer's number and said incase acer cant fix it I should take it to them to replace it since it's still within the warranty period. I phoned Acer and explain everything to them, they told me to send a picture of the screen after which I was told to send it to them so it can be fixed. Everything was going fine until last week when I received an email telling me that the engineer has check it and that it was an accidental damage which is not covered by warranty and I should pay £170 to get it fixed. I am so angry right now cos I know it's not accidental.  Am a single mum and a student  I know I will not be paying that, it took me six months to finish paying for the laptop with argos credit card and now this happens, I wish they could just return it back to me so I can take it to argos,  but on the letter it says there is a charge of £50 to return it without repair.  I think am being ripped off here , what can I do to make them honour the warranty. I see they do this to lots of people, has anyone's laptop been repaired without being told its accidental damage?

What the hell?! I don't think you should be expected to pay £50 to get the laptop back without repair if you weren't informed of that cost beforehand, that's not how things should be done; you inform the customer properly and they'll make the decision.

Try to get in touch with Acer and explain the situation to them, I'm afraid people from Acer here don't deal with these things  :'(

Also, the engineer has determined it was accidental damage, ask them to elaborate on that; what led them to reach that conclusion? I can't imagine how frustrating the situation must be for you.
