Hi gurus,
I installed a Silicon Power SSD PCIe M.2 NVMe 1TB Gen3x4 R/W up to 3400/3000MB/s in my SF314 54 replacing the Optane memory card set there;
I did the following:
1. I switched the BIOS from Optane to AHCI;
2. I disabled the fast boot option.
The system rises the "no bootable device" error; the same error when I remove the Optane card and I leave the slot empty.
Please let me know whether the problem can be solved or I have to send the device back to Aamazon.
Thanks.

    Good afternoon Marco_DB !

    Did you disable SecureBoot at Bios?
    Convert the SSD to GPT?

    Good afternoon to you and thanks for the immediate answer:
    1. yes i disabled the secure boot;
    2. please tell me how to convert the SSD to GBT;
    - I didn't mention that I inserted a 16gb RAM module substituting the previous 4gb;
    I tell that just to give you the complete picture.
    Regards, Marco.

    Hi MaClane,
    the disk is already set as GPT; should I repeat the diskpart settings after the installation of the new memory?

    is there a way to enable GPT from BIOS? I can disable secure boot only from the boot menu tab and there's no way to access legacy bios; I cannot either run the prompt for disk partition ...

    I think GPT is not at fault here, it's been the default partition table format since UEFI, take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt because I've never worked with Optane before.

    Some time ago I came across someone that wanted to use Optane to accelerate the system and had both Windows and Linux installed, someone said that while it was possible it would be tricky. I barely remember the conversation, but I think one of the steps they had to do first was to disable Optane acceleration in Windows while the module was plugged in.

    Maybe you need to disable Optane form Windows (assuming it still turns on when the module is plugged in), there ought to be an app preinstalled to handle it; otherwise this may be a place to drop by: Intel RST @ Intel's Download Center

    At that point it's probably possible to remove the module and keep using Windows from the hard drive as usual. Ideally you'd want to reinstall Windows directly on the new SSD and not clone the installation you have in the hard drive, but it's certainly possible to go that route. There are several programs for it, both free and paid, you may even have a license for one with the new SSD as some manufacturers include one.

    Don't worry about creating partitions if you decide to reinstall Windows, it's able to do that and use the appropriate partition table format although I don't think it would create those made by Acer (i.e. the ones for their recovery solution and the like).

    As for the SATA operation mode, you could leave it in RST mode if you'd like, that's the default mode even when no Optane module is installed, just keep in mind that changing from RST to AHCI and viceversa may prompt for a Windows reinstall (there ought to be a way not to do it, maybe Macrium's Reflect can help there but I never checked). Performance-wise it'd be if not the same very much alike, but if you plan on using Linux as well it may be interesting to have it as AHCI. Linux doesn't currently work with SATA being in RST (technically it does, but it understands it as a software raid and bah, too much hassle).

    Use the latest drivers whichever way yo go though, things tend to go smoother.
  • Yes @aphani, you need to disable optane memory before installing ssd: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000024626/memory-and-storage.html

    I recommend that @Marcos_DB connect the optane memory again and disable it correctly.
    It is not necessary to reinstall windows. Just activate the safe boot and then change the sata mode to ahci. In safe boot, the blue screen will not appear. Press windows+r and type msconfig an enable safeboot.

    Hi gurus and thank you;
    I followed the instructions and I tried to disconnect the Optane memory using the Intel tool of Windows but it seems that what I wanted to replace is the disk itself; please have a look at the following print screens taken from the Intel tool:

     the port appears empty and the disk only is detected:

    I'm afraid that what i wanted to achieve is not possible; do you agree?

  • I think your model does not have an optane memory installed.

    Indeed! It appears you already have an NVMe SSD installed and not an Optane module, you could replace that disk for the other one but I don't think you could have both.

    Although the application seems to indicate you have another empty port I think it may not be exposed (i.e. there's no socket where to plug another disk), I'd be surprised if it had a second M.2 port. For example, mine shows two ports being available, but I know for there's only an empty SATA port and that's it:
