I have read much about the lack of support for Linux on the Predators, particularly for operating the fans.  I have a G5-793 that has been running Slackware 14.2 for several years, recently upgraded to the 4.4.227 kernel.  The acer-wmi kernel module does a great job controlling the wifi, Fn-keys, touchpad, etc.  However the fan does not operate properly.  About a year ago I started getting the speaker buzz associated with the Predator laptops.  I have researched it down to being heat related.  When the system operates at around 39 degrees c or less it doesn't buzz, but around 40 degrees c it starts to.  While in windows, the automatic function (operated by PredatorSense?) keeps the system generally cool enough to not buzz.  But there do not appears to be any drivers to operate the fans in Linux.  I have tried several options, to include nbfc (notebook fan control) with no luck.  Have tried about any google-able option that I could find.  I love the Predator laptop.  Just not the buzz it is making from the speakers.

* Does anyone know if the fan issues  have been resolved in a 5 series kernel?  I noted that the acer-wmi module has been broken into two modules in the 5 series kernel.

* has anyone been able to get the fans to operate properly in linux, just as they do in windows?

The system seems to stay relatively cool.  I do not believe it is overheating.  I do plan on changing the paste on the heatsinks in hopes that it gets back to where it was.  The proprietary nvidia drivers seem to be cooling the GPU appropriately.  I am pretty handy with linux and know my way around, so I am open to any suggestions, even if they get technical.  Thank you in advance for any assistance.  If there is anything I need to provide more detail on, please let me know.
