I didn't used my laptop for more than a month, but when I booted it up but started to lagged so I had to force shut down it. When I powered it again a window appear "Preparing automatic repair" and then a black screen.
So I tried to install windows and after copying all files , it restarted and got an error "Your pc ran into a problem, we'll restart it for you.
Again it booted into windows installation and again I tried to install and in partition there is only 1 drive which is an unallocated space is completely formated. I tried to create a new partition but ended up with an error.
I tried to make partition using diskpart but diskpart also showing error.

Solutions I tried: Tried installing windows 7,10, Ubuntu and Kali (live usb). But end up in error.
Even went to local shop. Guy told me this HDD is not workable any more.

Solution he gave me is to buy new HDD.

Any help will be appreciated.

Off the top of my head it could be several things, most probably the hard drive that's damaged somehow, or there's a problem in its connection.

Can you try a different drive? Or placing that drive inside of an external enclosure and try to format it anew, that should clarify whether it's the drive that's damaged or something else.

Hopefully, it's the drive; otherwise the fix may not be easy nor inexpensive.

  • What is the exact model of the notebook? Example AN515-51-75KZ. Have you ever tried to just disconnect and reconnect the motherboard sata cable and the hard drive?

It's hard drive that damaged. I tried different methods to make partition or format the hard drive but end up in error. In last attached image shop guy connected my laptop hdd to his computer and run some command to format it. But none were working, so he told me to buy new one. So please suggest a good 1tb HDD.

    Thanks
  • I suggest you connect the hard drive to another computer and check the health with crystaldiskinfo.

    You have some options:
    - Switch to an SSD: the machine would be faster, but they're more expensive than HDDs. I'm used to this by now, and it's an upgrade I would certainly recommend for anyone. You'd be looking for a SATA SSD in 2.5'' form factor, without knowing which laptop you have I don't know if there are any PCIe M.2 slots.
    - Get another HDD, there are slower ones (5400RPM) and faster ones (7200RPM), there are hybrids as well that have a small flash cache, but I have no experience with them.

The cheaper option would be a 5400RPM SATA HDD, which probably matches what you had before. As for brands, it is kind of a personal preference, some prefer Seagate, others Toshiba, others Western Digital, etc.

If you're getting a hard drive, one thing that could be interesting is that it's not an SMR drive. Hard to know for sure because it's no usually advertised as such (there was a debacle about it some months ago), here you have a list of some that are known to employ that technology: https://www.ixsystems.com/community/resources/list-of-known-smr-drives.141/

If the drive you're getting has a model number that is in there, it may be better to get another.
