Fonts In Windows Look Terrible At 100% Scaling - CG437K

Hi,

The fonts in windows are all muddied and jaggy, with inconsistent gray/black. This is terrible.

I tried all manner of calibrating, and working with the cleartype tools to fix, but to no avail.

It appears to be due to inability to render cleartype/truetype fonts in windows at 100% scale.

Did anyone notice this issue? The only way I can get things to render correctly is at 300% scale, which is completely ridiculous. If I wanted that kind of size, I would have went with a 1080p panel.

I'm hoping someone has a workaround so I don't have to return this monitor today.

Thanks!

What resolution are you running? Full 4K or something under that? Windows can have issues with interpolating pixels when the screen resolution doesn't match the monitor.

    Yes, native 4k mode.

OK, if Windows is putting out at the full 3840x2160 resolution check the scaling on that screen. You can easily do 100%, 150%, 200% without much loss of clearness, but some of the custom scales can be really fuzzy... Also, bring up the display properties and show us a picture with the fuzzies revealed.

    Hey Bilsey,

Thanks for the follow up. I was finally able to get it working close to my liking by dropping the brightness and bumping up the hue and saturation in the 6-axis settings. I used SoftMCCS to try a bunch of settings using the generated sliders and was able to make much faster iterative progress that way, vs. using the OCD.

I'm very excited now to leverage this monitor to the fullest, both for office productivity and gaming.

I'm in the same boat. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/605710/predator-cg437kp-hdr-washed-out-win10-macos-awful-text-clarity-win10

Though interestingly it's a Windows 10 issue, not a monitor issue per-se, as my MacBook Pro connected to it renders text perfectly. The monitor is set to it's native 4K and windows scaling is set to 100%. The text looks awful with both ClearType on or off.

It's hugely frustrating. Also the HDR issue is too. So far it's both an amazing and HUGELY frustrating monitor to use.
