Been following along with this thread as I've had the same issue:

https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/563427/acer-nitro-5-hard-drive-not-working

Installed a new ssd and the hdd just disappeared. It shows up in Intel rapid storage, but with an error. Basically I'm stuck now because I have no way to clear the metadata on the HDD; its status says: at risk (SMART EVENT) with an option to suppress THE SMART EVENT. The data on the drive doesn't particularly matter to me.

How can I fix this? I just need the hard drive functional again.

  • What is the exact model of the notebook? Example AN515-51-75KZ. Was an optane memory installed previously? Can you tell if the hard drive has been transformed into a recovery unit?

    Thank you for the reply.

    Model is AN-515-54-58YY.

No optane memory previously installed. Helping a friend who doesn’t know much about computers. He's only had this system for a couple months and this is the first time we’ve opened the case to add the m.2 drive.

The drive doesn’t show up in disk manager but does show up in the bios. How would I tell if it’s in recovery mode?

He did have an earlier problem, it blue screened after an update and said afterwards it needed a clean windows install. He decided to upgrade his storage before installing windows, which we did earlier today. It was working fine except for the missing 1tb HDD. As I’m writing this, it just blue screened again... I had left it alone for awhile, started it up and now it’s saying it’s undoing changes made to the computer.
