Aspire X C-780 blank screen and high noise on start up - any ideas where to even begin ?

I turned on my acer Aspire X C-780 (with no previous issues at all) and got a very loud high pitched continuous beep coming from the computer (not from screen/speakers) accompanied by a blank screen. This continued until I forced shut down. I tried on/off a few times, mostly with the same result. On one occasion, there was an option to start the Boot Menu, but my wireless keyboard didn't work, and when I plugged in a new keyboard I needed to restart again for it to be recognised. On restart, this menu option was lost and I've not got it back since.

Any ideas where I could even start to try and determine what's wrong, given I can't run diagnostics?

Thank you in advance!

The long beep is an indication that the memory has failed the initial self test. Your first step is to look at the memory that's installed and reseat the DIMMs. If they've just gotten too dusty of there's a bit of corrosion on some of the connector that will often get you back up. If that doesn't, and you have more than one module installed, try moving to just one of them, and perhaps try in different slots. If you only have one then it's easiest to just replace with an equivalent, but that can be more painful if it turns out there's something else wrong, so purchase from someone with a good return policy. If I'm remembering your machine right, you should have two slots, supporting DDR4 1.2V 2133MHz unbuffered DIMMs in 4, 8 or 16GB sticks. 32GB maximum memory.
