Any Aspire TC-885-UA91 user ever run some kind of benchmark test for the USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C port's speed (or even the USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A port)? The computer user manual says it is a 5 Gbps port, but Acer employee insists it is a 10 Gbps port. I do not have a device to test it.

Now I have the software and hardware to test the front panel ports, using a ZTC  USB3.1 M.2 NVMe PCIEe SSD External Enclosure and the CrystalDiskMark program. The  M.2 NVMe SSD used for the testing is a x4 drive with the spec: sequential read 3,400 MB/s, sequential write: 2,300 MB/s. This definitely exceeded the speed of USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C port. Results  by using an enclosure via the Type-C port are: Reading speed 1,048 MB/s, Write speed at 986 MB/s. Since the speed is getting closer to 10 Gbit/s , so I believe the Type-C port is a 10 Gbps port.

The reason they are getting confused is that there are two different families of the TC-885. The first came with 8th gen CPUs and didn't support USB 3.1 gen 2, the second came with 9th gen and did. USB 3.1 gen 1 is 5Gbps, USB 3.1 gen 2 is 10Gbps. I believe the type A is gen 1 and the USB-C is gen 2. They probably didn't update the user manual when they updated the platform.

    Dear Billsey,

I am talking about the two red front panel USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports (A &C type) of the TC-885-UA91 model. This model comes with i3-9100 processor.  Previously I indicated disappointment at Amazon's review that this Type C port only has 5 Gbps speed(according to the user manual). One Acer employee read the review and commented on my review and insisted the Type C port speed is 10 Gbps. I do not have the  hardware and software to test the port speed.

Acer did the right thing by putting the two fastest ports at the front of the desktop computer. It is still very hard to find a  PC chassis with USB 3.1 Gen 2 type C port and type A at the front panel without paying an artificially high price.

If it has the USB-C port, it is the gen 2 version and supports 10Gbps. The earlier version of the machine had only type A ports and maxed out at gen 1. The orange USB A port on the front is gen1, so 5 Gbps.
