Bizarre Power Issue

I have a Aspire E5-575G-57A4 (running windows 10) with a very confusing power issue. For a while, it died whenever the power cord was unplugged, even though the battery is confirmed to be functional. A couple weeks ago, I opened it up to replace the touchpad ribbon and the problem immediately went away. Then today I replaced the wifi card and it's back to only running when plugged in. The system tray correctly displays the charge and that it's plugged in, but it does not display the time to fully charged, and the battery does not appear to be charging.

The drivers for the battery are up to date and the battery is new. There does not appear to be any obvious damage to the motherboard or the connectors.

I suspect it's a hardware issue, but since I was able to accidentally fix it once, I'm hoping to do it again. What specific component could be causing these issues? Is it necessarily a hardware issue?

Don't know if it's relevant, but here's some more information: The battery charging light does go on when the battery is present. When I remove the battery, the light goes off and the system tray says "255% available".
