On some of my other computers, it's been suggested to put a filter in the case's intake fan opening.  Any thoughts?  (No, I won't do that. <g>)  TIA

It really depends on your environment. If you are in an office with hardwood floors and the maid comes by and dusts a couple of times a week you're good to go. If you are in the garage and you get the wind blowing dust in all the time, you need to filter. Almost everyone is between those... :) I think if you take a look and at six months there is dust showing on the fan blades or pet hair all over the louvers, I'd want to add a filter (or at least vacuum more often). Remember that a filter cuts down the air flow, so you could have more issues with heat or fan noise when one is installed. If you put one on try and configure it so you have positive pressure in the case, so filter -> fan -> case with the fan pulling enough air to make up for the airflow out of the case.
