Hello. I have an Acer X3990 running off a Pentium G630 processor. I know this PC is old now, but it's still functional. However, with a G630 CPU, it is slow, so I ordered an I5-3470 assuming this would be compatible. When I add this CPU and switch on, I get 4 short beeps. I know the RAM is 100% okay, so I am assuming that the X3990 won't accept a 3rd generation I5 unless the BIOS is updated. If that is correct, the issue is that the last BIOS update available for this system is P01-B2. I already have that. So my queries are (1) are the 4 short beeps related to  installing a generation 3 I5-3470 (2) Can the BIOS be updated to accept intel 3rd gen CPUs? Will a BIOS update using the PO1-A2, or P01-A3 BIOS work, or will that result in a destroyed mobo? Thank you.

If you had bought one of these, you would be fine.
I don't think believe is anything you can do to make the one you bought work.

    "CPU Intel Core i5 2500 3.3G 6M 1333 95W K-0 , LGA1155, Sandy Bridge"                  Acer part number KC.25001.CI5
    "CPU Intel Core i5 2400 3.1G 6M 1333 95W K-0 LGA1155, Sandy Bridge "                    Acer part number KC.24001.CI5
    "CPU Intel Core i5 2300 2.8G 6M 1333 95W D-2 LGA1155, Sandy Bridge, Quad Core"   Acer part number KC.23001.CI5

Yeah, no 3rd gen in that 2nd gen MB. I'd also look into a SSD while you're doing upgrades. It'll make a lot more difference than the processor will.

I agree with billsey. The first time I upgraded a CPU, I was sorely disappointed. Then I installed a SSD and it was like night and day.
