2666MHz RAM running at 2400MHz? Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54

Hello, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, I'm new here. So recently I bought an Acer Nitro 5 model AN515-54 and started looking for RAM upgrades (original 8GB 2666MHz DDR4). I ended up buying an HyperX Impact 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 (HX426S15IB2/8). I noticed the boot time increased and I can't understand why since upgrading from a single-channel 8GB to dual-channel 16GB would speed things up. Also when I opened CPU-Z I noticed the system was running at 2400MHz (DRAM 1197MHz). Same at Windows Task Manager and HWiNFO64. I'm attaching a few screenshots I think might help.

I'm sorry if I said anything wrong, I'm new to this stuff.

This is because both memories are paired at the same speed and with the same cl. In fact, it is the original memory that is hindering the speed of memory with xmp profiles. The ideal is to acquire another memory with similar characteristics.

    @gsarenas I think
This is because your motherboard support maximum 2400mhz speed.

I'd guess Acer just had a really good price on the faster modules, so installed them instead of the 2400MHz ones or their may be shortage of 2400mhz ram stick

Actually it does support 2666MHz. I don't have any screenshots but before the upgrade it was running at 2666MHz. Also I checked with both store and acer datasheets it supports 2666MHz.

I did some research and found a similar case in which the cause was exactly this. So CL is important afterall. Thanks for confirming. I'll mark yours as the answer to the question.
  • Do you intend to acquire another ram?

I have the same issue. I have a DDR4 16GB RAM and DDR4 4GB RAM with a speed of 2666mhz. However, in the CPU-Z and Task Manager. It only shows that I have 2400mhz. My laptop model is Acer Nitro 5 AN515-42. Please help. I want to maximize its speed. I already tried accessing the bios but it did not see an option (I think) that allows me to have XMP Profile.

So I'm thinking about it. Either I buy another RAM to match characteristics or I just accept living with 2400MHz - I think 16GB RAM 2400MHz is still good though.

Look at @egydiocoelho's answer. I think you might have the same issue I have. CL not matching.

is there anyway to solve it? it is a waste having 20GB of RAM that is supposedly running in 2666 mhz but is actually running in 2400mhz

I think the only way is buying another one with CL matching. Check this out:

No problem man. But what if I will remove my 4gb stick having left a single 16gb ram? Would it be 2666mhz because there's nothing to be compatible with in terms of CL? Does it make sense? Sorry for being a newbie. Thank you for the help :)

Yes, it does make sense. If you use only one RAM slot you should get 2666MHz as single-channel.
  • Ideally, you should create a new topic and add me by placing an @, because your model is different. @gsarenas When you leave only the memory with connected xmp profiles, do you work at 2666mhz? What is the processor model of this notebook?

@Alberto25 I'm assuming you already know your PC supports 2666MHz. So I think it'll work.

Can I ask for a suggestion? What is better? Having 20GB RAM with 2400mhz or 16GB RAM with 2666mhz??? I will try to operate on it as soon as I made up my mind.

I haven't tried leaving only the HyperX Impact RAM. That's a good point. I know that if I leave only the original RAM it gets 2666MHz. Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-9300H.

@Alberto25 I honestly don't know. Your case is very specific. I'd suggest you to try both specs since disassembling RAM is quite simple. My bet is that 20GB RAM at 2400MHz is better.
