no more updates no more Google support after 5 Years From manufacture date. retailers need to offload all these old Chromebooks! describing them as new is misleading and false information! many times description does not show that it's been refurbished reconditioned renewed but sometimes listed in the specifications which is hard to prove because  serial numbers snid numbers or model numbers are not provided in the specifications!!!!you're being charged three to four hundred dollars for a Chromebook that's almost 3 years old! but described as brand new! manufacture date stickers are being changed on the bottom of most Chromebook brands!! saying it was manufactured in 2019! Lenovo  Chromebooks where the only bRand to have a new Chromebook released in early 2019!!!!!!!my fellow Chromebook lovers please do your homework before purchasing another Chromebook

I find most of that rant hard to believe... Other than Google saying it only provide OS updates for five years after a model is introduced. Most of the rest of that either deals with small sellers without scruples of is just fabricated. Name brands aren't modified before shipping to a vendor, but there are models that are popular enough they are still being produced a year or more after introduction.

I had read your comment earlier but haven't responded until now because I thought I'd give you the day to look up the information yourself. no Google did not put this information out! Google does not want you to know this information! matter-of-fact when 5 years is up Chromebook users will get a notice flash across your screen saying this Chromebook is no longer supported by Google! your Chromebook is no longer secure we suggest you upgrade now. there is no rant, or hype to all of this information. just type in what's the life of a Chromebook? and you'll see it all there in black and white and if you dig deeper and look at the two big giant selling sites you'll realize that these Chromebooks are being pushed as new when in fact they are refurbished and or 2-3 years old.you cannot dig up any information on them because they do not provide the serial numbers.the reason I know all this is fact is because I'm living it right now and have been for the last 2 weeks after having just bought one! so far Lenovo is the only newest brand out early 2019 and Google is extending their lifes security and updates to six and a half years.Google will be sending out this message in some updates in the future to some Chromebooks only! it can be found in Settings about your Chromebook.my Acer that is 5 years old is not updated with that message nor is the  Acer that I just bought and advertised as new and manufactured in August of 2019 which was in fact made almost three years ago and I'm sending it back for its third recertification or refurbishment two of which were previously done before last April ! it did take a lot of phone calls but we found out that computer is almost 3 years old and had a new sticker put on it that said it was manufactured last year!
