So weird thing is that my headset works perfectly fine when connected to the headphone jack but when i take it out, my computer defaults to using it's speakers. When I plug my headset back in, it gives me the option to select the speaker type through the realtek pop up but when I select it sound still plays on my speakers. Sound comes from my headset only after I restart my laptop. I've tried reinstalling and updating my realtek drivers but the issue still persists.

facing the same issue but no need to restart the laptop, just follow the process
    1. Connect Earphones and click yes to pop up
    2. Go to Realtek audio console from the apps list
    3. Go to Device advanced settings
    4. Connector retasking analog
    5. changed it from headphones to speakers then again speakers to headphones

try it... this method working for me.. but each time you will have to follow the same method after unplugging headphones

I have completely uninstalled the RealTek Audio Console and since then no issues or whatsoever.
