I just added an extra 4GB RAM to my Acer laptop but it's not recognized. Do I need a BIOS update?

What bios are you running? Is it the latest v1.32 dated 2016/04/07 for the E5-571G?

If you look at SPD Slot#1 in the CPUz Ranks one is “DUAL” type ram which is not supported by the E5-571G and its different to the "Single"! That is your problem, change it to a single rank ram like you’ve got in SPD Slot #3 and same specs.

To get "Dual Channels Ram" you have to have exact ram ranks with
exact part numbers and from the same manufacturer and if you look at the CPUz "SPD's" and "Memory" below they should look like this:

In addition to what colleague @StevenGen said, some chipsets do not accept ddr3 and ddr3L memory installed on the same device.

Thanks a lot for your reply. The original/first RAM's part number is M471B5173DB0-YK0.
I think I figured it out. The part number of the 2nd RAM I ordered is M471B5273DH0-CK0.

I should've bought a RAM with the same part number. It's just that this useful piece of advice was nowhere on the Internet (or at least when I googled for advice/tips).

So here are my steps to adding a RAM (especially for an Acer Aspire E15 E5-571G-77P0)
    1. Install CPU-Z.
    2. Go to the SPD tab and get the manufacturer and part number of your RAM.
    3. Try to buy a RAM with the same manufacturer and part number.
    4. When installing the RAM, check YouTube for a guide.
    5. Be careful with the connections, especially ZIF connectors and its kinds.
    6. Open Task Manager, go to Performance tab and you'll see Memory on the left pane if your RAM increased. You can also click Memory to see if the slots used became '2 of 2'.

I encountered something about changing the XMP profile in BIOS, but Acer (or my laptop model) doesn't allow that. If your RAMs have the same manufacturer and part number, you might not need to do  this.

I have V1.26, 18-Dec-14. I've read that there is really no need to update the BIOS if there are no issues with my hardware or something.

Thanks a lot for your help :)
    You guys are awesome!
