"Input not supported" message on my B226WL monitor when used with an HDMI to VGA adapter

Hi, 

When I connect my computer to my B226WL monitor it displays a Input "Not Supported" message.

My computer doesn't have any vga output port so I'm using an HDMI to VGA adapter.

I tried to change the resolution, the refresh rate, the vga cable but it didn't fix the issue.
When I use my old computer and connect to screen to the vga port of the computer it works. When, on the same computer, I use the hdmi port and the HDMI to VGA adapter it doesn't work.
To be sure I've tested to use this setup (hdmi adapter + vga cable) on another monitor (Viewsonic brand) and it works fine.

Is there anything I can do to fix that problem or do I have to sell this now useless screen and buy a different one ?

    Are you sure it's an HDMI to VGA adapter, or could it be a VGA to HDMI adapter? They are different...

    Have intel graphics? right click on Desktop and choose Display settings, change to maintain aspect ratio and Apply.
