Windows activation fails

Bought a refurbished Aspire TC-285  Model  D17ES
Startup OK.  then the software provided a second Windows key for activation.  The key was rejected.  Web and phone searches have not yielded a valid activation #.  Phone connect was especially frustrating as it began with ads for 4 totally unrelated products and concluded with report that system was down and offer of $100 gift card.    NONSENSE.    Make it work.

You should contact the vendor who did the refurbish. If they replaced the MB then the key would no longer be correct, since Windows OEM licensing it tied to the MB...

Have you got a Microsoft account e.g. like a .hotmail.com email that is registered with Microsoft? Have you had any other windows operating systems registered with Microsoft? As putting in a random key means nothing, Microsoft goes by your account and then checks your keys. I've used Win-7, Win8 and 8.1 keys to activate Win-10 operating system all the time and never ever had any problems even with Win-7 keys that are 8 years old but, what I've done first for my clients, I've registered and/or used either their Microsoft accounts or Microsoft emails to "Log Into their Microsoft Account" first and then put a key into the "product Key" space to get the "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account" that is the most important thing as you have to log Win-10 into Microsoft first to be able to verify the old key.

Try that, if it doesn't work then call Microsoft as that key that you are using has probably been used/registered before (by a crack or previous owner of that Key) and is not valid anymore and/or the previous owner of that key/computer (seeing that its a refurbished desktop) the key is registered to a previous owner. If that is so, get a new key from the retailer that you purchased the Aspire TC-285  Model  D17ES desktop from.

I have used both Windows 7 and Windows 10 for years.  The most recent machine on which anything ran is dead and buried.  I'm fed up with Acer.  Time to request return goods instruction for inoperable machine.

Who did you buy your refurbished machine from? I'm sure Acer would like to know, especially if you feel that it's Acer fault. Acer does have a refurbished outlet (I believe) but most refurbs are done by the vendor selling them, not the manufacturer.

The vendor is Acer Refurbished.  They have been informed and are not yet responsive

I imagine they are still slowed by the COVID-19 stuff. They should get to you soon, I imagine. Let us know if they do not and we'll try to escalate through the back door...

Melissa on the Acer Refurbished phone line (844-433-8476) promised to attach an urgent label on her request to a Texas facility.  Has not produced results yet (Sunday early AM EDT)
