Aspire 5560-7892 Windows 10 battery problems

Here's a description of the issue.
1. The laptop will not power off. When I shut down windows, the system spins down but the power light and Wifi light remain on. I have to either hold down the power button for 10 seconds or unplug the laptop (with the batter removed - see below).
2. The laptop will not start properly while the battery installed. Windows hangs at startup if the battery is installed when I power on the device. To start Windows properly I have to start the laptop with the battery removed and then once Windows is fully loaded I can install the battery.

Thus I carry the battery in the laptop bag and only install it when I need to operate the laptop without AC.

This is a good laptop but this issue is frustrating me.
