Hi. I bought my Acer Aspire 5820T laptop on eBay last year. It's a pretty old notebook, I bought it in used condition and it came with a problem. Occasionally, when I turn the laptop on, the screen keeps black, blue led lights are on and the CPU fan starts spinning, first it spins slower, then it goes faster and faster and stays that way. I do a hard reset, and then the second time the notebook boots and turns on fine, so I can continue the work. This can also happen several minutes after the notebook turned on. It will just freeze, the picture on the screen will freeze and all the other symptoms are the same - led lights, fan going crazy and absolutely nothing I can do. The problem has an occurring pattern that I've noticed: it will most likely happen if I turn off the notebook in the evening and turn it on in the morning, or if I turn it on after a few hours of being off. If I restart it after working for several hours or if I turn it off and on after, say, 20 minutes, the problem won't occur.

What I've tried.

- I disassembled the laptop, cleaned it and changed the thermal paste
- Cleaned the RAM stick pins
- Drained static energy from the motherboard by removing the battery and pressing the power button for a minute
- Installed the latest BIOS
- I even took it to a technician who wrongly diagnosed an SSD problem, and thought that he fixed it and returned it to me, but the problem persisted

Specs of the notebook

Mobile DualCore Intel Core i5-480M, 2933 MHz (22 x 133)
RAM 8 GB (Samsung x4GB)
SSD ADATA SU650, 240 GB,
Screen 15.6" Max res 1366 x 768
GPU Auburndale/Arrandale Processor - Integrated Graphics Controller

I am close to being desperate. Please help me :)

Unfortunately you cant change and/or upgrade your CPU/GPU as the Core i5-480M with its integrated HD (Westmere) graphics is soldered onto the motherboard. This problem usually happens because there may be some components of your motherboard that are failing due to heat and wear, it has to be diagnosed by an experienced technician. The cheapest way to diagnose and fix this problem is, get a new CPU/GPU fan and see if that fixes he problem, as this laptop is very old and as I've said it could have many failing and deteriorating components.

StevenGen, Thank you very much for your answer. OK, I will order a new CPU fan then. I am determined to make this laptop work so I will try every solution. I will post an update when done.

I have an update concerning the problem of my laptop.
I noticed that whenever I unplug the power adapter and start the laptop, the problem doesn't occur. Later, if I plug the power adapter during the first 60 seconds after the notebook powers on, then the probability is very high that the standard routine of the main problem will occur, i. e. the notebook will freeze and the fan will start to go higher and higher. However, if I plug the power adapter after 5 minutes, everything goes fine.

    P. S. I already ordered a new CPU/GPU fan. When I change the fan, I will also post an update.
