So I ended up picking up a pretty beat up eMachines e627 on ebay for about $40 shipped, and carried over all my working and upgraded Acer 5532 parts.  Worked perfect.

StevenGen. Going to see if my soldering skills can revive my old board.  As long as I can do a decent job and it works, then we know the BIOS chip was bricked and wouldn't be able to do anything no matter what else we tried.  If it doesn't go to post, then I think it will be pretty safe to say the GPU, or other components on the board have failed and the motherboard (well for the less savy of us) is fubar.

Going to take a few days before the BIOS chip comes through, but I'll report back.

That's the spirit! Good luck. You could also try a last-resort solder reflow to see if it's revivable. Basically bake the whole stripped board for about 10 minutes on an aluminum cookie sheet or foil in a toaster oven preheated to between 425-450*F. Jack E/NJ

Just don't tell the wife, there are often some less than healthy smells that come off while baking. :)

It took about a little over 1 month for the bios chip to get in from Nova Scotia, but I got it.  Desoldered the old chip, soldered on the new one (not that bad of a job), but the SAME boot issue.

Well it was fun I feel like I learned some things along the way, even if this laptop still isn’t working.

JackE since you have been offering advice to me since the beginning, and if you’re interested, I’d like to ship this laptop out to you, on me.  If you think you might like to mess around with the motherboard and give it a go, it’s yours.  Just DM me.

Thanks for the  report and offer. Sorry it didn't work out. At this stage, I still think you have nothing to lose by trying a full-board solder reflow in the toaster oven. Usually done outside as some phenol, formaldehyde & byproducts can be released from the board's Bakelite composition at these temps. Jack E/NJ
