How do I download the Atheros driver?

I think we made a critical error. We got an error message saying that "Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter." My son, who is pretty computer savvy, walked through several processes. We downloaded the driver and unzipped the file. The critical error I think we made was uninstalling the driver after it said that there were no updates. We thought it would be best to uninstall the non-working one, then reinstall. But on closer inspection, the .exe file for the installer only offers 3 options--modify, repair, or remove. Not install. Which begs the question of why it's called an installer. So what do I do? I now have no network adapter (I think), and no way to download the driver? What in the world?!

Bit of info to add. I decided to try to do a restore point to a week ago. In the list of things that would be deleted because they'd been installed since then is the driver. But I can't find it anywhere on the computer. Yet in the list of things that have been deleted and will be restored, the driver doesn't appear. ?!?

It would help to know the full ACER model number. Also, open DeviceManager. Then click on any red or yellow warning folders to reveal device driver issues. Post photo if possible. Jack E/NJ

Likely the reason it only gives the three options is because the driver is already installed. Do as JackE says and make sure Device Manager isn't reporting errors.

I did the system restore point, and the driver showed up again. However, the original error still showed up. I gave up for a bit. 2 days later, it has apparently, for the moment, healed itself.

The apparent healing is better known as 'magic' by most Win10 cognoscenti. Congrats.   :)    Jack E/NJ
