R7-571 - How to Diagnose Power Issue

I have an R7-571 that when I plug in the power adapter, the light on the adapter goes from on to off. I have disconnected the DC jack and when I plug in the adapter without it being plugged into the motherboard, the light on the adapter stays on.

Can I assume that this means that the DC jack is functional and does not need to be replaced?

What other steps should I consider reviewing to determine if my motherboard is bad and needs to be replaced?

Should I consider replacing the battery? This is something I have not tried to date.

This is the LED on the power brick itself or the power LED on the laptop? Here's what specs say about the power light on the laptop:
    Charging
    • Amber solid on - Battery charging with AC
    • Blue color solid on - Battery full
    • Amber blinking - Battery abnormal stop charge or battery in low power state
    Discharging
    • Amber and blinking - Battery in critical low state
    • Amber color off - Discharging status

This is the led on the power brick. I get no lights on the computer when attempting to charge and the led on the power brick turns off when I plug the adapter into the DC port.

I'm thinking the most likely scenario is that the power brick itself is the culprit. It shows it's "I've got power" LED until you put a load on it, then it fails. Is yours the 65W or 90W supply? Either one uses a 5.5mmx2.1mm barrel connector and outputs 19V. The larger one is for models that have discrete graphics instead of the chipset graphics. If you have access to another power supply to test with you should be able to see if it's the supply dying under load of the computer pulling the supply down.

Definitely. I have a replacement on order and I am hoping this is the issue. It seems consistent with what I am seeing. I sure appreciate your response. I'll update when I receive it.

Sorry.. it is a 65W adapter. Would a 90W be a better idea?

90W would work, but the added expense isn't needed if the original was the 65W. The 90W provides the extra power needed by the discrete GPU.
