One year old Acer, just went black while online. Turned off, waited, turned on. Got Acer screen, then "no bootable device." What now?  I tried the Windows 8 fix of F2, then F9, enter, and F10, enter, and waited, since it says "Reconstructing Cache Metadata, please do not interrupt this process."  A list of 10 items has been done, or listed at 100% (last one being "writing segment heap, done"). Now what? Video said it would start okay on its own after this, but I'm still waiting...now at 2 hours nothing else happening. Any suggestions?

After that fix I mentioned above, it sat there for hours doing nothing. I finally turned it off disgusted, and just now did a restart out of curiosity. It went on just fine, and I've restarted three times now with no problems. Go figure. Thanks for your reply though.

@sjhg in addition to making sure you have current backups plan on seeing another failure sometime fairly soon. Usually that type of symptom is a sign that the drive is starting to fail. Sometimes it's just a glitch and you won't see anything more amiss for years, but sometimes it happens again, and again, and ... It's just going to help you feel a lot more comfortable if you always have a reasonably current backup... You can also create the system restore image if you didn't do it when new, so you have the possibility of restoring the basics before recovering your files from backup if needed.
