Microphone wont pick up sound from laptop

The mic (internal mic that comes with the laptop) works fine when I use my voice (external noise) but anything from my laptop it does not pick up. example: if I want to record audio with voice recorder from my laptop speakers say a youtube video it wont pick it up no matter how loud I play. But if I talk it records just fine. Same if I stream on youtube or other casting sites. Any ideas on settings to get it to work?

I set everything in sound settings to default and rebooted and that seems to have fixed it. I installed Manycam last week maybe that changed some stuff...who knows. Now it all works like it should, hope it stays that way.

Voice recorder only records external noise. try any screen recorder. They usually pick up audio.
