Why can't I get full access to my Google account

I recently had to log out of Google and remove my Chromebook from my account remotely because I thought it was lost. It is not. I am trying to get back into the Google account but had to reset the password. After logging in I'm getting an error message stating that I need to confirm my old password to gain full access. I don't know it obviously or I would not have reset it. Help please.

If you don't know or forgot your old Google account password, then you will have to contact Google. Jack E/NJ

Unless the Chromebook is logged onto your network it has no way to know what your current password is, so it will only respond to the older one. A power wash might help, but first see if there's a way to connect to the internet from that initial login screen.
