Acer Aspire V3-731 - no Win8 COA / serial

Just bought an Acer Aspire V3-731, which came with Win8 preinstalled with all the Acer extras.

However, I was expecting a Windows serial number sticker / COA thingy on the bottom of the laptop or in the battery compartment, like it was with my previous Dell laptop, but nothing there.

According to this Acer page

http://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/28575/kw/where%20is%20my%20windows%208%20serial

> Note: Windows 8 systems do not have a COA label.

which explains why it's nowhere to be found but doesn't explain how I reinstall Windows8 from scratch if, say, 18 months down the line, the hard drive dies!

How do I find my Windows8 serial number?

You do not.  It is not necessary to possess the product key, which is embedded in the BIOS.

Use the factory recovery process and it will reinstall the operating sytem for you.

Yeah, about that... Microsoft thought it would be smart about the 'Win 8' problem and tell manufacturers to put a 'Win 8' sticker on it instead. To be clear, the sticker IS the COA ...
