My HDD is experiencing SERIOUS performance issues. Most of the time Task Manager says it is at 100%, even though neither of the proccesses listed are using that much of its speed capacity (mostly System and System interrupts). I searched everywhere for a fix, I've tried disabling superfetch, disabling some services from a number of guides, defragmenting, checking for errors via cmd, antivirus scan and ccleaner, but all to no avail. All games that I have are virtually unplayable at any level of graphics, because the game constantly stutters because it can not read the data from the drive fast enough. GTA 5 can't load textures and terrain. Visual Studio is slow as hell, making it very hard for me to do any work. I am on an Aspire A715-71G-572L. I also have LITERALLY no money ATM and I can't buy a new hard drive.

I think it may be a windows problem.Install a refreshed copy of Win 10. Press the Power button for 5 seconds to completely power off. Press and hold the Power button again to power up then immediately press and hold Alt + F10. On the blue screen select Troubleshoot then refresh to keep your files. Be patient it can take quite some time

Please click YES if I answered your question

Try uninstalling, NOT just disabling, Kaspersky. Windows Defender and Malicious Software Removal Tool are all that most users need and they're updated regularly. Jack E/NJ

I did a fresh Windows install, clearing everything from C: (including Kaspersky) and STILL nothing

What do you mean by this? Was the fresh install from the hidden ACER-proprietary factory OEM Win10 recovery partition using the ALT+F10 cold boot method? Or a generic non-OEM Win10 using Microsoft's USB media creation installation tool? They are not the same. Jack E/NJ

@VorticStep 1. Right-click Windows Start Menu and select Disk Management to open it.

Step 2. When you get the main interface of Disk Management, you can select the drive that you want to check and fix, then right-click it and choose Property.

    click property

Step 3. On the Tools tab, click Check.

click Check on the Tools tab

Step 4. If the system detects that there are errors, you will be asked to check the disk. If no errors are found, you will see a message as shown in the following picture. You can still choose to check the drive if you want to. Click on Scan drive.

    click scan drive

Step 5. Windows will display a message as below after completion. If no errors are found, it will say no error found. Then click Close to exit it. If there are some errors found on the drive, Windows will ask for a restart to fix the errors.

    click Close

    >>>Most of the time Task Manager says it is at 100%>>>

If this is still the case and you haven't tried it already, download and try installing the SATA AHCI Kabylake driver update.

    Still no change.

If this driver update still doesn't do it, you should try the ALT+F10 cold boot full remove everything factory reset one last time. If still no joy, then if it were mine it would be well worth trying a new HDD since 1TB WD HDDs with big 128MB caches since they are now less than $45USD.
