Internal Connections

Recently a partially dismantled eMachine eTower 300 was brought to me. The cover was off the tower exposing the internals. The hard drive had been removed and the frame/bracket was off. I’ve tried to figure out where that bracket and the hard drive goes, as well as what connections need to be seated on the hard drive. I connected two cables to the hard drive sans bracket, then turned it on. The fan became active, but it would not boot and show the monitor display. I tried replacing the power cables for the tower (the monitor cable did not need replacing). I’ve tried everything and attempted the boot about 15 times and they all failed.

Ideas, anyone?

The previous owner knew that the machine was bad, so he/she took out the hard drive for some salvage value.  Without the hard drive, you surely cannot boot up to Windows(unless you try to boot from DVD disk or flash drive). My suggestion is to forget about this machine and buy a new PC. Not worth the effort trying to get it running.

The eMachine eTower 300's are a very old and basic systems, its not worth doing anything with them as they are a dinosaur lol but and if you want to play around, buy a cheap IDE hdd (if you can get one?) then try to install Win-XP or 7 32bit on it, that’s about all you can do. have a look here for some guidance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4Uamcv0y-g

Yeah, the eMachine eTower 300 shipped originally with Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE came out in 1999, so there's only the 1998 model year for those. 300MHz processor, 3.2GB HDD and when expanded fully could hold 256MB of ram (I believe stock was 32MB of ram). :)
