Well, after a whole day of trying to get it to work, I am posting my question here.

For some reason, the HDMI cable that came with the rift every so often refuses to connect to the computer. Once I can finally get it to connect, I get a black screen inside the rift. There is a white light at first inside the rift headset letting me know that it's working, however once it detects me and I put the headset on, it turns orange and stays that color, as well as still having the black display. The games that I start are getting recognized by the rift because everything works, head shakes, controllers move, etc, but the display is black.
