Hi Acer Community
Completely new to computer modification/upgrading.

Recently was given an Acer Aspire TC 886 DT.BDCEK.003 (9th Gen i5 processor 9400)
Graphics card: Intel UHD Graphics 630
No SSD

As it was a gift i am unable to return however i dont think it will be as powerful as i need for work/home.

Is it possible to upgrade my model Aspire with new parts to make it inline with the latest Acer Aspire 886 models? (such as the below examples)
Also how can i tell what motherboard i have in my Aspire TC 886? and if the parts i have mentioned below would be compatible?

From what i can see the differences are the graphics card and the inclusion of a SSD (happy to be corrected!)

DT.BDCEK.009

  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 1030 with 2 GB dedicated memory
  • 1 TB SSD

DG.E1QEK.003

  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 with 4 GB dedicated memory
  • 1 TB SSD
Any help is very much appreciated - sorry if the questions are basic!

Thank you!

    Good evening Turtle101 !

Acer motherboards are from the Acer "brand", developed by the company itself.
As for the GPU, the question to evaluate is:
    - internal physical space to accommodate the plate
    - if the current PSU will have support in connectors and power for new demand
    - assess the need to use more coolers or improve the internal cooling system due to the increase in temperature

Yes, but you should check for warranty breach issues.

I don't yet have access to the MB layout on your model but many of the newer desktops have an M.2 slot on the motherboard for adding a SSD. The PSU looks like it's standard ATX so if you need to beef that up it's easy. You have a 9th gen i5, so as long as it's not soldered in you can bump it to an i7 or maybe even an i9. GPU is also able to be pumped up, mostly you have to watch for power requirements and connectors. Most any computer technician can do the work for you, but stick with firms that have a track record for safety.
