This is terrible!! I had to change my Google password due to a large data breach, but the next time I restarted my Acer Chromebook it required me to enter my old password. I do not maintain a history of old passwords and no longer know my old password. I have now lost dozens of files saved over several years, which I had stored locally to have them off-line. This is very upsetting. I don't know if this problem is unique to Acer's Chrombooks, but it's extremely upsetting.

If your Chromebook is connected to the internet you can just have it sit at the login prompt for a while so it can handshake with Google. It will then work with your new password. If you can get network connectivity then there's very little that can be done, the security settings are that way to deter theft, making it much harder for a thief to use it without your credentials.
