The simple answer to your question is "Yes and No" firstly, but Is your CPU the "Intel Core i5-4400E CPU"? As there is no such thing as an i5-440 3.10ghz CPU!

The Acer Veriton VM6630G either comes with an Intel (4th Gen) i5 4400/2.7GHz or an Intel Core i7 (4th Gen) 4770/3.4 GHz socket BGA1364, these CPU's are all soldered onto the motherboard and its very costly to change them and also, its very hard and costly to get a higher CPU spec e.g an i7-4770 to resolder onto it.

The best thing for you to do is to try and get a second hand Acer Veriton motherboard with the Core i7 (4th Gen) 4770/3.4 GHz to replace your i5-4400 or it would be much easier and cheaper for you to buy a completely newer generation motherboard and CPU as your
Veriton is a 2015 model motherboard and CPU.

Thank you Steven for the info.
    I apologize for the typo's
    My BIOS is reporting a i5-4440 cpu @ 3.10ghz

I went into the store where I bought it (Canada Computers) and they looked it up and they say it can be upgraded to a i7 47770 or 4790
They also said I would have to buy the CPU on eBay
I will take your info and theirs and do more research.
    Thanks Again

    Hello,
    Just an update.

    I bought a used i7-4470 3.4ghz off a local online board Kijjii
It is working great. My unit has a removable CPU.

We tried to get a i7-4790 working but no go, and we could not get the BIOS updated.

But the i7-4470 is working great.

Also I bought a used 550 watt power supply that I will be installing in it.

    THank you for your help

Sorry Neil, I probably got the wrong socket reference e.g. the socket BGA1364 which the CPU's are soldered on the motherboard instead of the Socket 1150 which are all removable that you have. Anyway and for future reference(s) look at 'CPU Upgrades' site for the i5-4400 (see here: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_i5/i5-4440.html) as the i5-4771 is referenced as 100% compatible for an upgrade of your OEM CPU, so its unusual that the i7-4790 84W TDP which is 93% upgradable (in their calculations) is not compatible and does not work, as the i7-4470 84W TDP also is 98% compatible and works? Btw, all these CPU's have the same 84W TDP's. I've upgraded i3's and i5's to i7's that have been 90% upgradable and they all worked perfectly, maybe your motherboard and BIOS is only specd for a max i7-4470 as the max specd i7-4790's must need a different chipset and BIOS. With your upgrade from the i5-4400 to the i7-4470 you have gotten a 30.3% improvement in related performance which is not too bad, while the i7-4790 you would have gotten an improvement of 33.5% which is not much more.

If anyone needs and wants any future upgrades of CPU's and specs, they should look at this site "CPU Upgrades'http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/index.html or 'CPU-World' http://www.cpu-world.com/index.html as that is where I get all my info from. Anyway, good luck as I'm sure that your system will work very well and allot faster, I've been upgrading CPUS's in laptops and CPU/GPUS in desktops for many years and its a great way of saving older system for minimal cost and bringing allot of them up to date for tody's specs and OP systems to work better and quicker. Btw, try to also upgrade the GPU, spinner HDD to an SSD and quicker RAM which will give you a huge advantages also.

    Hi Steven,

I had to return the used 650 watt power supply I bought. It appear Acer proprietary motherbood power connectors. The 650 connectors were too big.
Do you know where I could buy a used power supply for this box/motherboard?

    I currently have a 300 watt supply.
    Thank you again.

You don't have to return it. Just get a 12 pin to 24 pin ATX Power connector for a few bucks and you're good to go.
