New Display Panel incompatible?

Hi,

I recently upgraded my Acer Aspire A515-51G-51Z7's 768p screen to a 1080p screen (Panel Model: N156HCE-GN1). Installing it was fine, however turning it on for the first time, after the boot logo the display cycles its back light on and off, and remains black screened. Going into safe mode works, and if I install the Generic Microsoft Display adapter normal Windows boots fine too, however I am wondering if it is possible that the display driver is incompatible with this panel? I am currently using a generic driver from Intel, however black screening is still an intermittent issue but sometimes I am able to boot. Brightness is also unable to be changed. iGPU is Intel UHD 620.

Any help would be appreciated, or if anyone is aware of any drivers that could potentially work.

Hi,
I couldn't find any incompatibilities with the new panel, except it's a 8bit panel and the original one is a 6bit, however, have you checked the pins are aligned and the connection cable properly inserted, there's another possibility that the new panel could be faulty, normally Windows will find the appropriate driver when you install a new panel, sometimes you may have to restart the laptop.

I would suggest you to uninstall the display driver manually and reboot, check whether Windows install the driver. Another solution is, return the panel(if possible) and get one of the following panels:
B156HAN06.1
NV156FHM-N42
LM156LF1L03

Thanks for the quick reply. The cable not being connected might be an issue, however reading what you wrote it reminds me that my cable has been slowly getting worse - I often see screen glitches when I move my laptop slightly. I have already ordered a new display cable and am still waiting for it to come, maybe the old display cable is causing this issue?

Regarding Windows installing its own driver, I've tried and if I leave it to install its own driver from online it instantly black screens, with no way of restarting back into normal ways except going into safe mode and reverting the driver.

Returning the panel is no longer am option as I bought it from China when I was there for a holiday. Doing research online it seems that as you say there should not really be any incompatibilities,so I went with the best colour and brightest display there was.

I will update this post if something changes with the driver issue or after I replace the new cable.

Hi there,

I have just installed the new cable - but no luck

Do you have any more suggestions? I'll give letting Windows choose the driver once more, but I doubt it'll change anything

Sorry, run out of ideas, please take it to a local repair shop, they might be able to fix it.

There's also another possibility that the 8bit panel being not fully compatible but can not confirm.
