I'm looking to upgrade my wifes PC , Just wondering what kind of motherboard / processor combo that I could install to keep her system running without starting from scratch. Meaning not reloading Windows .  I've already upgraded her PS and hard drive and Ram. So just looking for  examples of what I could buy.
Specs:
Acer Veriton M2631
OS: Win7 64 Home Edition
GPU: built in video currently on MB
PS:600 W

The M2631 uses a standard uATX motherboard, so anything else that meets those specs fits in. Your HDD ans PSU will transfer over directly, the CPU and memory will potentially have to be replaced. You typically have to match the CPU and memory to the MBs chipset and your old 4th gen stuff won't work in a modern (say 8th to 10th gen) MB. Although the HDD will typically allow you to run using a new MB there are very likely going to be issues with drivers. The M2631 originally shipped with W8 and allowed a back off to W7. W8 required the MB support UEFI boot so you are likely using that still. W10 natively support booting in a UEFI environment, so I don't expect you'll have issues from that end.
So, pick a suitable MB, match it with a CPU and memory. Swap boards, plugging the old HDD into the new MB. Boot up, connect to the Internet if possible, if not download drivers for your networking on another machine and install those so you can get connected. Step through Device Manager and update drivers on each new device found. That should get you going with the new setup. I'd also look seriously at upgrading the HDD with a new SSD as well, it'll make a huge difference in performance, especially boot times.
