Hello guys,

I am pretty new to hardware upgrades and have decided to give me laptop a small boost. Please excuse the count of questions, just looking to get some tips here. Any info is appreciated.

So I have the laptop in the title. I discovered yesterday, that I am able to put an M.2 SSD inside. Question is, can it be an NVMe or not? Is it suitable to put an NVMe or it isn't? Maybe I should just stick with an M.2 SSD only? What brands do you guys use?

I do not know, which port is the M2 slot, so I posted all of them.

Also guys, any idea where can I find the small screw to hold the M2 disk? On YouTube videos, I saw that our laptops do have them inbuilt, mine  doesn't. Maybe they come with the SSD? I realized I would need a stand-off as well, as the screw itself won't hold the disk. Any clue on whether this comes with the disk as well or I have to buy it separately?

Last question is in regards to RAM? What RAM should I use for this laptop to upgrade it?

  • Hi,
Yes, you can install a M.2 NVMe SSD, you already have the stand-off needed in the motherboard, if it's missing from the motherboard, you can buy it any local laptop repair shop, you have to buy a screw size M2.0x3.0 for securing the SSD, some M.2 SSD vendors provide this screw, you can upgrade the memory with another 8GB DDR4 2133MHz module.

RAM Max is 16gb in each slot for 32gb max
    DDR3 1600mhz SODIMM
Link to compatible Crucial RAM below, write down the part number and order from Amazon

Are you 100% sure that NVMe will work? I am looking at 1 TB drives. They are a bit expensive and most shops here said they don't do refunds on drives.

In regards to RAM, how about putting 16 GB 2400 MHz module?
I want to put the maximum supported by this laptop - 32 GB(correct me if I am wrong). I had no luck finding 16 GB 2133 MHz modules.

For the screw, is the part number same as the one here: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/566883/what-size-thread-type-do-i-need-for-the-m-2-screw-holes?

    Hi,
Yes, NVMe SSD will work because you have Maximum Link width value of 2x for PCI Express Root Port 9, you have 2 lanes enabled in your model, it's the norm for most of the laptops, the SSD will operate at half the speed specified by the manufacturers, as for the memory, yes you can install 2400MHz modules and they may downclock to 2133MHz, the screw size for the M.2 SSD is same as in the link you have posted.

According to the Service Guide for your model only the E5-575 and the E5-575T support DDR4 2133 mhz, you have the E5-575G
So according to the Service Guide your model supports a max of 16 x 16gb for 32gb total  DDR3L 1600 Mhz. The guide however has been known to be wrong and it does look a little confusing, so please post a screenshot of CPUZ spd tab

This is a screenshot from CPU-Z SPD tab. The other RAM slots don't show anything(I have two real, but it shows 4 for some reason).
