Hi, I'm hoping to buy an AMD Nitro 5 this weekend AN515-42.

The two SKU's I'm considering are
-R5ED: 1TB HDD, $727 CAD
-R6YD: 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD, $750 CAD

On paper the R6YD is better value (provided the 1TB drives are the same) - it's a $23 price increase for a 128GB M.2 SSD. However 128GB is tight (it's the capacity of my current laptop, which has 24GB free and only a couple of retro games installed).

This Acer Community Thread says the device only supports M.2 SATA not NVMe.

Options I'm deciding between:
1) -R6YD Total storage 1.1TB (128GB Flash), total price = $750
1) -R5ED SKU; replace the 1TB HDD with a 2.5" 500GB Samsung 860 Evo for $90. Leave M.2 slot empty. Total Storage = 500GB, total price = $820.
2) - R5ED SKU; add M.2 250GB Samsung 860 Evo for $80. Total Storage = 1.2TB, total price = $810

I'm not sure what your question is but you are right all SKU's only support SATA in one m2 expansion slot. Acer have only tested up to 500gb but many users have installed 1tb with no problem. Crucial state that they guarantee compatibility and they offer a 2tb SATA for this model so they have tested it at 2tb. I have the RSED with 1tb HDD and added 500gb SATA for 1.5tb total. Link to Crucial for the An515-42 RSED below
