After reading various threads here related to driver issues I've been led to believe that i should not blindly opt to update my drivers simply because they are an upgrade. Sometimes they do more harm than good. Therefore, i was hoping that since i am not very knowledgeable in this field i was hoping someone could help me out with this dilemma. I've various issues with my laptop and i am not even in a position to figure out if it's because my drivers are old, due to which most of my issues are occuring. If there was some definitive guide on the important driver updates for my predator model it would help me a lot since i have no experience in this area.

    Hi,
As long as you don't have any problems, you don't need to update the drivers, if you want to update driver for any reason, always download the driver from acer support site link I have posted in my previous post, I do still have drivers from 2006  =) but the laptop working fine, so I would suggest you avoid updating drivers and enjoy the laptop.

  • Hi,
Could you please post the full model name of the laptop, like PH3xxx-xx, in the meantime, go to Acer support site and enter your model name, you will be able to get necessary drivers provided by Acer.

Hi my predator model is PH315-51. I am also attaching my dxdiag info if you needed any more info. Thanks for the help i appreciate it.
Also i have noticed that people in this forum had experienced random issues when blindly updating their drivers. Some even had to roll back to a previous version for more stability during gaming, etc. so i was confused if i should just go ahead and update every driver appropriate to my model from the link you provided. I am just a bit worried that i might brick my laptop :'3

I am getting a few problems such as pc freezing and sometimes getting BSOD errors on specific games when i play for more than 30 minutes. I havent been able to find any solution for this so i was kind of guessing it must be my drivers :p :

Probably there is driver problems, can you install the newest driver for your Nvidia card? If it happens when gaming that means there's a problem with your Nvidia card drivers. Also make sure you're using latest BIOS. What's your Windows version?

I don't know how you get the idea that updating drivers is problematic.

You are living in the WIndows 10 forced update world now --- which means that if you don't actively update your drivers personally, some Microsoft AI is going to force a driver update on you and that is going to be much worst. You are smarter than the Microsoft AI.

    You need to update:

    (1) your bios
    (2) nvidia graphics driver --- go to nvidia website and search for GeForce 10 series NOTEBOOK.
    (3) intel graphics driver --- 26.20.100.7755 and run the exe.
    (4) realtek audio driver --- go to Predator pt917-71, download the realtek audio driver AND audio console driver. Unzip them, RUN the setup.exe in the driver folder and setup_app in the audio console folder. Run Microsoft Store to download updates of the audio console. You will no longer have the old Realtek HD audio manager.
    (5) intel wifi --- go to intel website
    (6) realtek ethernet --- 10.38 from realtek website
    (7) bluetooth --- if you have intel go to intel's website

And update to windows 10 1909 after you update the drivers.

Hi, i updated my drivers as per your suggestions and thankfully i am not getting any more BSOD's while gaming. My graphics drivers were already up to date- just needed the update for my BIOS and the windows. You guys are the best <3
There are just a few more issues left now. My pc still freezes when i play games for more than 2hrs now. Now i am no expert but i am kind of guessing that it might be because my PC overheats a lot. Both cpu and gpu reaches temps of 98 degrees when i play for more than 10 mins as per predator sense. Can you guys pls advice how to solve both these problems and if this freezing is indeed because of my temps? Thanks a lot.

P.S- i have been advised to replace my thermal compound for my overheating issues by some people here in this forum since acer doesn't do a very good job at that when they ship it first hand. But since i am living in an area where there are only 'acer certified' service centers and not acer service centers itself and my laptop doesn't have any warranty any more so i am kind of afraid if i should just go ahead and have them fiddle with my pc. :'3
