Is there a way to boot an Acer TC-780 with an Ubuntu disk. When I use F12 and get to the boot menu it will not give me any option to boot from the DVD/CD drive.

    Good evening rwneilljr !

    Is it an x64-bit ISO?
    Was it created in GPT?
Did you try Ctrl + S?

I am using a commercial disc of Ubuntu 16.04 which has instructions to insert in the CD/DVD drive and then reboot and click F12 to boot from the disc. My Acer will not allow booting from the drive and only allows booting from Windows.

    I know...
I have been working and developing with Linux for over 20 years.
    My question was ...
Do you have adequate knowledge of Linux distributions and familiarity with the system?

My experience with Linux is limited. I installed Ubuntu on an older computer which has now stopped working because of hardware problems which is why I wanted to use it on the Acer.

I suggest you download an x64 ISO from the Ubuntu website.
    Create a bootable pendrive media.
    Disable SecureBoot at Bios.
Seven the Sata Mode in AHCi.
