Can I connect a monitor into my laptop with HDMI cable and will it work? Which version of HDMI does my laptop have?
Specs: i5-7300HQ, GTX 1050 4GB

A quick Google search showed mixed reports, many answers seem to be yes, others seem to say yes, but some monitors limit it to 120Hz over HDMI; and others say a categorical no.

Disregarding the specs of HDMI 1.4b ports... maybe you could walk up to a shop and ask them to let you try your laptop with one of the 1080p/144Hz monitors on display and see what's up. That NVIDIA card is quite capable of doing it over an HDMI 2.0 interface though (personal experience).

I have the same laptop version but with i7 and I get maximum 120Hz at 1080p on my BenQ ZOWIE XL2540 240Hz.
Even if you don't get 144Hz, believe me, having 120Hz over 60Hz is way better and if in future you plan to get a PC or change the laptop, you have a 144Hz screen that you can use.
Probably the easiest way would be to ask a friend who has a 144Hz screen to let you test your laptop.

I hope my answer helped. Check the screenshot. Cheers!

    Hi man,

I was wondering how did you manage to get 120Hz on Intel HD graphics, I have same laptop as you, but I can't get more than 60Hz on properties ?

I did nothing, to be honest. I just connected the screen via HDMI to my laptop and changed in properties from 60Hz to 120Hz.
All drivers up to date. Maybe the port you're using on your screen doesn't support 120Hz? Try a different port? What monitor do you have?

Im happy to see this thread, coz i have an acer 31.5 165hz comming soon. And i have also vx15 i7. Even i cant use the full 165hz im happy with it. Anything above 60hz will be a huge diff.
I sold my predator 17 gtx1070 with 75hz and overclocked it to 95hz then play again into 60hz it gives me headache 😅😅 now just waiting fo my monitor..
im thinking also to get hdmi to active display port.
