Hello,

just got the Helios 300 with the 1660ti. I removed some bloat ware and the norton security it came with and set up everything for my oculus rift s. The performance is ok but I have to tune everything down to run it while my desktop can set the settings higher and it has a worse graphics card the RX590. Is there a particular reason for the decline in performance? This set up is better than my desktop on paper but is not performing to it.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Solved! Ok the laptop is running great with VR. Turns out the lighting in my play are just wasn't good. It looked like performance stutters but it was actually tracking stutters! Temps stay in low seventies and runs great with settings cranked up a bit. Helios 300 with 1660ti is definitely an incredible machine!

Crayons50 the reason would be that you cant compare the power draw from a laptop to a desktop (where you have a 750/1000++++ watt PSU) you have much more power draw on a laptop and the adapter has nothing to do with a desktop PSU so theres is your explanation why you have to lower resolution on any gaming laptop comparing with a desktop (which cant be compared to any laptop no matter what gpu you have in the desktop) laptops are limited to the mobo supported power input even a higher wattage adapter wouldnt solve anything because the input its limited those are the main limits on having a laptop either gaming or not all this said laptops werent meant to run vr on high settings if you want to take advantage ob the very best vr experience of the highest settings you can only do it on a really good desktop build its like asking a radeon hdxxxx mobile to run AAA games on high :)

I completely understand all of that which is why I went for a pricier laptop. I am new to laptops but I would just assume that since the specs are far superior to my desktop in every way it would at least run to a similar standard. I have to turn everything down in beat saber for it to run without a lot of stutters but then my desktop while on a worse graphics card and processor runs everything on high in the game no problems. Also the reason I am asking is because this model laptop was running a rift S in a local Vr arcade and that had zero issues. I was just wondering if it was something I wasn’t doing properly. Thanks for the answer though!

Also if it matters at all the Vr benchmarks are far superior on the laptop as well.

Crayons50 im not saying it shouldnt perform better im not familiar with vr gaming on laptops  (neither on desktops whatsoever) but im just assuming there should be a much higher power draw than on a normal desktop maybe someone that also has vr capabilities and plays with it can share some more thoughts :) also im just curious about how are your temps while gaming on vr :) and have you optimized windows and also tried to undervolt it further with TS you can check here if youre interested
