I received an Aspire 1 for Christmas and have been impressed with the speed. I accidentally left it on while I went to run some errands and when I returned,  it was just a black screen. I've set it to sleep when I accidentally pushed the F1 key. But when I returned home, it didn't work. So I powered it down and powered it back on but all I got was a black screen. The power light is blue like always. No logo screen or anything. I did some looking online and did the following:

1.With the power off, press and hold FN+ESC then press the power button.

2. Release FN+ESC

3. Press power button as you normally turn on your laptop.

I did get an unfamiliar screen to show up. It's the TianoCore logo and then it goes black again. What's the problem and what's the solution? Any help would be greatly alpreciated.

Remove the charger. Gently insert a paper clip into the battery reset pinhole on the bottom for about 10 seconds. Then re-connect the charger and let the machine charge for about an hour or so, Then turn it back on. Jack E/NJ

@JackE I appreciate your help but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem.

Immediately return the machine to the vendor as defective for a refund or exchange before the vendor's RMA policy period expires. ACER warranty service will take longer. Jack E/NJ

This is very easy to fix. Your Acer doesn't like to come out of hibernation. Power off your Acer by holding down the power button until it shuts off. With the screen open press the power button to restart your Acer. If it starts up normally go to Settings--System--Power & Sleep. In the Sleep section select Never for both On Battery and Plugged In. On the right side of this screen click Additional Power Settings. From that screen click Change when the computer sleeps from the left side menu. From this screen click Change advanced power settings. Expand the Sleep menu by clicking the + sign. Click Hibernate After and select Never. Close all the windows and the black screen will not appear again!
