Hi everyone,

I have the Predator GX 792-713B and when I play Modern Warfare (ultra settings), my CPU reaches 96°~ so I think it is too hot, is it for you? Should I try liquid metal to lower temperature?

    Extremely hot
Normal paste will work not necessarily LM

Liquid metal will make your cooling cool quiet. BUT! It also might break your laptop. When i asked any service to do this, nobody will, since it is risky. That was my first thought how to fix my laptop. But one day it might just shorten circuits and fataly destroy motherboard and things around CPU. Think about it, and do what you want. If you use your laptop as DTR, no problem. You carry your laptop around? It might be problem.

There is no so much risk, you need to cover several layers of lacquer around cpu and gpu and apply a tape like kapton scotch on top

Another question that in my particular case I didn’t get improvement after applying LM on cpu and gpu maybe footprint not so good or smth so I went back to normal paste and it works very well

Well, I dismantled my laptop and removed all the dust (a lot) from the fan and all around, I replaced the thermal paste (she was dried) by Kryonaut thermal grizzly and look that! It's amazing (modern warfare ultra settings)
Before I did that, my CPU was heating up to 96°C and now it's about 76°C so -20°C :open_mouth:

I used to be into more extreme overclocking, and I have a bit of experience with all sorts of TIM.

    Opinion to follow: ;)

I, personally, would steer clear of liquid metal style. It's not that it will short out or damage your system, it's that it can move around a bit and become less effective over time. Laptops, by definition are more mobile and subjective to more shock and vibration than an enthusiast's typical desktop. Also, the "enthusiast" bit comes into play when discussing (really good) Tim like liquid metal. Enthusiasts, by definition, will likely change out a part, or parts, long before some of the "high end" thermal paste loses it's mojo. Most people into liquid metal are just applying it for one or two Ln2 sessions. In this use case it is HIGHLY effective.

That is one of the reasons, all laptop manufacturers are sometimes accused of using "less than good" thermal paste. Sometimes this is accurate, other times they make the calculated decision to use a less thermally conductive, more resilient TIM. The result being that it doesn't cool as well as some more exotic TIM, but it will not move around or change properties significantly in a year.

Think about the basic TIM that comes on the bottom of a heatsink when you buy a new CPU...we all know it's trash, but it does an OK job for a longer period of time. You have all purchased gaming laptops...which will reach the end of their useful gaming life in 2-3 years...depending on your demand for playing games at the best settings. That is what your factory paste was designed for.

I plan on mild disassembly and re-application of TIM on my personal system about every 6 months to a year. That's my plan, because my laptop travels with me (on airplanes and such) every other week. I bought my latest Predator in July I think, and am actually shopping TIM right now. Thermal Grizzly is at the top of my list, mostly because Tech Jesus says it's worth a try, lol.

I have better results with prolimatech pk-3 than with the grizzly kryonaut maybe becoz pk-3 is more thin. Last time I didn’t even apply it evenly but just put one drop on cpu and two drops on gpu and this time was the best mine

I will probably again will go with LM, reaplying it periodically is not a problem

Also I don’t think there is a chance LM will spread all other laptop due to vibration and movement. Maybe 1 cm around the chip but more? I have safe area around chip 3-5 cm
Have you ever seen normal TIM spreader all other laptop.. I never

And if LM can give at leas 3-4 degree of temperature drop it can worth it  =)

Like I said, just my opinion. Liquid metal will always be better...no argument there. I just think about it's consistency and resilience, and how much abuse my laptop takes, lol.

I think we can both agree...open your laptop and apply some better paste if you want to get the most from it and push it's limits. :)

    rant\

Today's tech, has almost taken the fun out of overclocking. Every cpu/gpu pretty much overclocks itself...provided you can keep it cool. In my case, with the i7-9750H, its listed as a 2.6ghz all core part, but even at near 90 degrees I'm almost always at +4ghz. This [self edited curse word] didn't happen back in the day...a cpu ran at a speed and that was it, unless you overclocked it.

What a time to be alive...you "kids" don't know how good you have it nowadays, lol!

    If only it was true
Looks like some thing prevents from this statement
