SSD in disk drive caddy, not registering.

So I got a caddy to replace the disk drive with another storage device. I put in a Samsung evo 860 500GB SSD, that works as I put it in an external drive to wipe it. In disk management it shows it labelled as F: and has 465.76GB RAW. But it's still listing it as a CD ROM drive and I can not format it to change it to ntfs. It was not RAW before I put it in the caddy. So long question short. How do I format my CD ROM drive to recognize it has an SSD inside it and how do I then format it to NTFS?

Ringling321 so youre using a cdrom to hdd adapter and replaced your cd/dvd drive for a drive correct ? if your driver its not recognized might be the adapter you got thats not compatible with it

    Something like this:

I have a couple and all of them work fine (bare in mind sometimes they arrive faulty had to return loads of them) with normal hdd never tested them with ssd i would probably try a normal hdd on it and see if it works fine if this is the case its not compatible with your ssd if the hdd doesnt work either your adapter is faulty and what is the exact full model of your laptop.

PS: this solution should only be used on really old laptops to extend the internal storage as the dvd drive sata port doesnt have the same speed as the normal sata port its much slower so dont expect much speed if you go this road i recommend a usb external drive it would be much faster
