I have an Acer Aspire 5742 series with Windows 7, the model number is PE w71, for some reason it lost Windows 7 I guess due to an update that went bad . I barely use this computer . I only use it when needed. I would like to find out if this computer has a recovery partition or did this have a installation cd or dvd ? Im not the original owner of this computer . All advice will be greatly appreciated.

It should have a recovery partition which may or may  not work. Shut machine off. Turn it back on again and immediately start banging away at the F2 key to enter the BiOs menu. Under the Main tab make sure the D2D recovery option is enabled. The F10 to save settings and exit. Then shut the machine off again. Turn it back on and immediately press and hold the ALT key while tapping the F10 key. A recovery screen should appear to let you reset the machine to factory fresh condition. Technique for Win7 is similar to the Win8.1 reset video shown below. Jack E/NJ
