Hello,

I just purchased Kingston 480GB A1000 M.2 2280 NVMe disk and upon replacing it with the current liteon cv18b128 it does not get recognized in bios nor in windows.
Is it supported?

I need a quick help please, so I can return this SSD if this is not supported :(

Thanks!

So, after much tries, many forums and similar things, I found a solution.
I hate that ACER is locking their BIOS in laptops and that there is no update for BIOS that allows NVMe booting, but the only way for now to boot windows from NVMe drive for me is to plug usb with WINDOWS 10, boot it and close it, then I can boot from NVMe(when proper driver are loaded) until next cold boot.

I am certain that I WILL NOT purchase anymore laptops from ACER, as well as products from Kingston :D

Thank you all for your help, you gave great advices which helped!

    EDIT:
This motherboard DOES NOT support booting from NVMe, but the EASIEST way to do this is to create small partition on second SATA disk and copy windows installation files on it, then use EASYBCD software to make "Recovery" partition, then bootmanager will open in the boot process and drivers will be loaded, which enables you to boot with NVMe :D

    Hi,
You have one slot for NVMe SSD(the bootom one), the other for SATA SSD, so it should be compatible, where is the Windows installed? please post the snip of your Disk management.

Unfortunately, my version of laptop have only one m.2 slot...
Currently I have one m.2 ssd 120gb and default hard drive 1tb.
I don't know if this can  be of much help since I don't want windows on HDD since it is slow one

So you are trying to replace the 128GB SSD with the Kingston SSD, how did  you transfer the OS to it? or you are trying a clean install.

    Yes, that is correct!
I want to change current 128GB and replace it with Kingston and also install OS on it.

Do you have a spare HDD and a SATA to USB cable? If you have you can backup the 128GB SSD content to external HDD, create a bootable USB disk, install the new SSD, insert USB bootable disk and recover the backed up image on to the new SSD. You have to use Macrium Reflect to do the backup and create a bootable recovery USB disk.
Using Macrium reflect for backup image, creating recovery USB and recovering image to new SSD are all detailed in the link below.
    1.Download and install Macrium reflect.
    2. Connect the spare HDD with a SATA to USB cable to the laptop.
3.Backup the original SSD image in the external HDD.
4.Create a recovery USB disk with Macrium reflect.
5.disconnect the external HDD, remove the original SSD and replace it with the new SSD.
6.Insert the recovery USB disk, go to BIOS and move to Boot tab, change the boot order to make USB disk as your first boot device.
7.Connect the external HDD(where the backup image saved).
8.Recover the image  from the backup to the new SSD.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.
But I don't think that is the answer I was looking for, I do want to make a clean windows install but on the new NVMe ssd and to throw old one.
I made bootable USB with win10 on it. But the issue is that I cannot install windows 10 or do anything since my bios and laptop only recognizes HDD, I cannot install system on the new Kingston SSD because it just shows as there is no disk inserted in m.2 slot once i plug it into m.2 slot... So, in the end I want to know if "Acer Predator G5-793-509K" does support NVMe or only sata m.2 :/

    Hi,
Yes, your model have M.2 NVMe SSD support, what happens if you remove the HDD and leave only the new SSD.

I tried that also, even resetting CMOS, but bios still shows no disk and windows installation wont work because there are no drives to install system on :/

My suggestion to you is this, take back and swap that "Kingston 480GB A1000 M.2 2280 NVMe disk" for the Samsung EVO 970 NVMe M.2 500GB drive, they are the most compatible and the best and the easiest to install and clone. Samsung’s excellent 'Data Migration' software and their 'Magician' with ‘Rapid Mode’ software, its so easy to use.

What I would do (to spare you buying a new HDD or an SSD drive) is I would use a “2 in 1 mSATA + M.2 SSD to SATA3 Combo Adapter Case with USB 3.0 to SATA3 Cable” you can buy these on eBay/Amazon very cheap like $15.00 USD then plug the Samsung EVO 970 NVMe M.2 500GB drive into this adaptor and then use the Samsung 'Data Migration' to clone your OEM LiteOn CV18B128GB M.2 with the Win-10 OP, directly onto the new Samsung EVO 970 NVMe M.2 500GB drive, very simple procedure, I've done it hundreds of times in building and swapping 2.5" or M.2 drives..

I've always used Samsung and never ever went wrong and/or had any compatibility problems, with either their SSDs 2.5” or M.2 and NVMe. If you look at this Acer community post: ‘Acer Predator G5-793 NVMe Support’ here: https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/554480/acer-predator-g5-793-nvme-support and look at ‘mnewdigate’ post, he used a Samsung M.2 NVMe and it worked 100% but, he did it in a more complicated way and he had a spare 2.5” SSD.

DaidzaBenno Do you have any chance of testing your new nvme drive in another device or even via usb with an nvme adapter/enclosure to check the health and if its working or faulty if you can do so

    Hello guys,

    I have some updates.

Laptop is compatibile with NVMe as brummy said and I followed some of the steps from his threads.
I installed clean win10 on old hdd using my old m.2 drive and then replaced it with new m.2 and booted system from hdd
Ssd was recognized and I cloned my disk.

The issue that I currently have is that if I restart pc AFTER I prevousiy entered windows 10 from hdd( I guess drivers are loaded somehow then) I can boot from new ssd, but if I open bios to change boot order ssd dissapears. I also wanted now to replace mi soare hdd with odl 1tb hdd since i saw that it works but once again drive is not bootable.

One thing is that if I run windows windows installer, drive is not shown there, but if i go to browse for driver, ssd is there with windows files...

Oh and also, thank you guys for your help, but unfortunaltely I tried returning the SSD back, but I ordered it from the online store which replied "We cannot take item back since it has been opened and used" so the replacemement is not an option. I did place it on the marketplace, but where I live, i dont think it will sell quick...

Also, i plugged in my usb usb windows on it and went Repair my pc, then "change uefi options" and once laptop resets and enters bios, it shows ssd there instantly, but once i choose save and exit or exit in any way, it "forgots" it and next time i enter bios manually, ssd is gone :(

I see that you have your BIOS SATA Mode set to "RAID" try changing it to "AHCI" and try again, that is your problem with the NVMe incompatibility, as RAID storage technology combines multiple disks into a "single" unit, depending on the mode that you have set it to? Where "AHCI" advanced host controller interface - allows the software to communicate with Serial ATA (SATA) devices. It offers features such as hot-plugging and native command queuing (NCQ).

@StevenGen , thank you for your post, but unfortunately, there is no way to change sata mode...
At least, in my BIOS there is no option for that, maybe I need some type of unlock for the InsydeH20 BIOS :/
I am thinking that it might be solution but I really cannot find the option to change it...

Well regarding locked bios all manufacturers have the bios locked not only acer so you have to hate them all for that :p and in my view they are right in doing it to avoid users to screw up with settings they dont understand that might damage the device and they would have to take it under warranty its a security risk also you are free to unlock it yourself at your own risk (not advisable neither supported in anyway) not an easy task but doable for those who might want to take the risk and know exactly what they are doing but of course the warranty would be voided
