I bought this laptop this summer, so it is not old. Sometimes, there is an odd noise coming approximately from the location of the fan. It is hard to describe but more like a buzzing noise, not the usual fan sounds. This happens very randomly, sometimes weeks between it, and after a while the sound just stops and it is nice and quiet again. Acer Care Center tells me that all is fine and everything else is perfect. Just this random noise. Any ideas what could be behind it? If it is just working a bit extra in the background or anything else?

Sounds like a phenomenon called 'coil whine or buzz' coming from high frequency wire-wound choke coils on the mainboard when the CPU is being heavily loaded. Try to ignore it. Jack E/NJ

It also coule be attributed to the fan, the fan speed is controlled in concert with the processor temperature, so speeds up when things start getting hotter.
