Hi folks,

I just recently bought 2 Acer XF1 25 inch monitors for the purpose of dual monitors. This was the first phase of my gaming computer upgrade setup. The first monitor works awesome, however I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my second monitor going. For the first monitor, I am using the HDMI cord provided to connect from my desktop HDMI port 1 to the HDMI port 1 on my HP Envy 750 model. For the Second monitor, I am connecting the HDMI port 1 to HDMI port two on my computer. Windows 10 will not recognize my second monitor, and I have tried every combination that I can think of. I have tried all HDMI port combinations, but my monitor says "no signal".  Sometimes I am able to get the second monitor to show up, but on the nvidia graphics panel, it shows up as "Digital Display", and honestly, I have no idea how I was able to do that, but when I extend it, it doesn't work.

Years ago I remember having the same problem when I was first trying out two monitors. It was a simple mistake that I made but I cannot remember what it was. I also have an included VGA cable connected from Desktop monitor 1 to desktop monitor 2 to try but that hasn't worked either.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I have the nvidia GeForce gtx 970 graphics card and I have updated the display drivers with no luck. I have also tried connecting the HDMI port from monitor number 2 to the HDMI port in monitor number 1 without luck.

Use the following steps to set up multiple monitors and choose your display options:

    1. Plug a monitor into your video port. Windows 10 will automatically detect your monitor.
    2. Click the Start Start menu and select Settings.
    3. Click System.
    4. Click the drop down box under Multiple displays and choose one of the following options:
      1. Duplicate - You will see the same on both screens.
      2. Extend - Your screen is now spread over two monitors, and you can drag and move items between the two.
      3. Show only on 2 - You will see everything on the screen you just connected. The other screen remains blank.
    5. Click Apply to save the changes.
NOTES: Please click on YES thanks............

To get your PC to recognize multiple monitors:

    • Verify that your cables are connected properly to the new monitors.
    • Select how you want the desktop to display. You can press the Windows logo key  + and select an option, or use the following steps if you need more settings options.
    • Right-click anywhere on your desktop and select Display settings to open the Display page. Your PC should automatically detect your monitors and show your desktop. If you don't see the monitors, select Detect.
    • Scroll down to Multiple displays, then select an option from the drop-down list to determine how your desktop will display across your screens. For the largest work area, select Extend desktop.
Display settings page showing options for multiple displays
    • Select Keep changes.
    • Scroll up to Resolution and select an option. We suggest that you use the recommended resolution settings.
    • Select Keep changes.
    Please click on YES thanks..............

I have verified that all cables are connected properly, and have tried all combinations, but Windows 10 still does not even see my second monitor anymore, and there is no dropdown next to multiple displays. I am stumped.

So I finally got the dual monitor set up. I needed a DisplayPort to HDMI cable, and the second monitor turned on in a heartbeat! Thank you for the help, this dual monitor setup is awesome.
