Quick question do I need to know the key or can it auto detect such?

it should auto detect as the key is linked to your uefi chip.  The only exception is if you were to run 10 as a virtual machine under another operating system, then it'll (probably) struggle and need a bit of prompting.

it should detect it automatically. but i would take a copy of the key just in case.
its easy to do so :
    Press Windows key + X
    Click Command Prompt (Admin)
    At the command prompt, type:
    wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

then write it down or take a picture to make sure you can always find it in case something goes wrong
    good luck
